Baden-Württemberg is a few hundred kilometres West of Munich in the South West of Germany and is full of wonderful scenery and some of the best restaurants in the whole country. The Black Forest is a wonder in itself, but in the same area is the breathtaking Lake Constance with the Swiss Alps as a perfect backdrop and sun-soaked Mainau Island. There is also the history-drenched town of Heidelberg and the relaxing spa town of Baden-Baden, beloved for its hot springs since Roman times.
 
The surrounding countryside is full of palaces, quaint little medieval villages, and castles, plus the Daimler and Porsche museums are in nearby Stuttgart. Baden-Württemberg is the birthplace of the motor car and cuckoo clocks and much more besides.
